Exhibition
Making of... The Halfmoon Files

12-26 March (open on all days except Sundays and public holidays)

Siddhartha Hall, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan

“Making Of ... The Halfmoon Files” is a four channel sound and video installation by Britta Lange and Philip Scheffner on the so-called “Half Moon Camp”, where mostly Indian and North-African “colonial soldiers” had been imprisoned from 1914 to 1918. “The Halfmoon Files” is about tales on the interweaving of colonialism, war, media, politics, entertainment culture and science.

Film Screening
The Halfmoon Files

12 March, 7 pm

Library, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan

In his experimental search “The Halfmoon Files”, the filmmaker Philip Scheffner follows the traces of image and sound documents of these war prisoners. It is a film about gaps, omissions and the construction of history. A film whose protagonists are, for the most part, not visible – their presence however is perceptible. In other words: it is a ghost story.

Lecture
Objective Data - Subjective Texts. Anthropological and Linguistic Research on Indian War Prisoners from 1915 - 1918

14 March, 7 pm

Library, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan

It was the researchers working in the humanities who made sound recordings of largely folkloric texts and songs with the prisoners of the “Half Moon Camp”. By way of the Indian sound recordings, the lecture by Britta Lange will show that these recordings were similarly made with “objective” instruments and methods and thereby took no note of the apparent “subjective” messages of the speaker. Respondent: Prof. Shahid Amin, University of Delhi

Remembering Pina Bausch with Anne Linsel

18 & 19 March, 7 pm

Library, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan

Pina Bausch died on June 30, 2009. Drawing deeply on the violence in male-female relationships, often with mordantly witty texts and fantastical sets, Pina Bausch crossed the borders between dance and theatre. She has also had an enormous influence on visual art and cinema. ‘Remembering Pina Bausch with Anne Linsel’ is an attempt to understand Pina Bausch’s work and life through the eyes of Anne Linsel (film-maker, journalist and publicist) who followed the artist for many years. Films will be followed by discussion and Q&A session with Anne Linsel.
